Shannon Hayes in Undercover!
Hi there!! So I’m Shannon and I’m a 2nd year Psychologist at St Anne’s, about to do some shameless self-promotion. Even though I’m at Oxford studying a seemingly unrelated subject, I want to be an actor (super original I know ) I’ve been acting here and there for 5 years now, starting out in Hackney at Identity Drama School to becoming a member of National Youth Theatre. After a long period of auditions and not really getting very far, this summer saw me gain my first professional role in a 6 part BBC drama! Here comes the self-promotion….It’s called Undercover and it’s basically a really tense political thriller. The show is headed by Sophie Okonedo (who won a Tony award for A Raisin in the Sun with Denzel Washington and appeared in such films as Hotel Rwanda and After Earth) and Adrian Lester (who was in Hustle and was a joint winner of the Best Actor award for his performance in Othello). Sophie and Adrian play my parents (which is an absolute dream) and the story follows Sophie who in the show becomes the first black Director of Public Prosecutions! I play the youngest out of 3 siblings; essentially a teenage girl that’s a little bit selfish but obviously has a heart of gold . I’ve had the best time on set, from staying in lovely hotels to just getting to do something I love for 6 weeks….so I thought I’d share some snaps with you. With only 2 days of filming left, I’m feeling quite sentimental.
P.s. It’s coming out April next year on BBC 1 and it’d be awesome if you could give it a watch. Though, I’ll be way too embarrassed to remind you all nearer the time.
